Malattie delle piante
In alcune piante, non affetta da malattie particolari, possiamo notare una sofferenza generale caratterizzata da un’alterazione del colore che dal verde passa ad un giallo più o meno marcato, caduta delle foglie e crescita ridotta. Questa malattia prende il nome di clorosi o anemia vegetale.
I fattori possono essere diversi, infettivi (per degradazione enzimatica della clorofilla operata da alcuni funghi del genere Armillaria) o, nella maggior parte dei casi, fisiopatici. Può dipendere infatti da un problema alla fognatura del vaso, da un eccesso o da mancanza di umidità nel terreno, da insufficienza di luce o di aereazione. Per guarire le piante occorre individuare la causa e porvi rimedio e somministrando subito solfato di ferro in polvere o diluito in acqua nelle proporzioni di almeno il 5%.
Bianco, mal bianco, ioidio. Sotto questi nomi e sotto quello volgare di crittogramma si comprendono alcuni
funghi microscopici che attaccano in particolar modo la vegetazione giovane. Ci si può rendere conto della presenza della malattia grazie ad un palverina bianca che ricopre le foglie; questi funghi si propagano molto rapidamente e arrecano gravi danni, talora portano addirittura alla morte della pianta. Come rimedio è necessario tagliare (dove possibile) le parti colpite e quindi inzolfare. Tenete presente che in commercio sono presenti molti rimedi meno naturali per combattere il mal bianco. Per le piante che vengono attaccate frequentemente, la cura migliore è quella preventiva, utilizzando i prodotti in commercio oppure lo zolfo ramato o la potiglia bordolese alla dose di 1 a 2 grammi per litro di acqua. La malattia prospera sulle coltivazioni che vengono lasciati sul campo e può essere presente anche sulla vegetazione spontanea. Il cleistotecio è l’organo di conservazione del mal bianco. La malattia compare all’inizio di giugno, quando si ha un clima caldo e umido; comunque la massima manifestazione si ha nella tarda estate quando il clima favorisce lo sviluppo e la propagazione del fungo.
Bianco delle radici. Questa malattia si presenta a seguito dell’imputridire delle vecchie radici morte o da pezzi di legno rimasti nel terreno; tutto questo alimenta alcune vegetazioni crittogamiche che attaccano le radici buone. Si consiglia ovviamente di togliere le parti morte e di stare attenti a non sotterrare nessun pezzo legnoso, soprattutto se si tratta di piante in vaso.
Cancro. E’ un’alterazione del legno simile ad un’ulcera prodotta in generale da potature mal fatte. E’ necessario tagliare tutta la parte malata fino al tessuto sano. Se possibile bagnare con solfato di ferro.
Fumaggine. Le piante attaccate sembrano spruzzate con polvere di carbone; la malattia insorge per la presenza di un piccolo fungo che si sviluppa sulle foglie che rimangono come incrostate da una sostanza viscida chiamata melata, secretata da alcuni pidocchi. Si rimedia eliminano gli insetti e lavando le foglie con acqua leggermente saponosa.
Gomma. Sono soggetti alla gomma soprattutto gli alberi con frutto a nocciolo. E’ una malattia interna che si aggrava quando non giunge all’esterno, rompendo naturalmente la corteccia. Se ci si rende conto della malattia è necessario tagliare subito i rami e fare attenzione a non usare lo strumento, con cui sono state tagliate le parti malate, su piante sane, senza prima averlo disinfettato.
Muffa. Attacca più che altro i bulbi ed i tuberi e dipende dall’umidità del terreno. Vi si rimedia naturalmente spargendo sulle parti malate del carbone vegetale in polvere.
Borracine e Licheni. Queste vegetazioni parassite nascono sui tronchi e sui rami approfittando dell’età adulta o di un’occasionale debolezza della pianta. E’ necessario distruggere questi muschi anche perchè sono il ricettacolo di molti animali nocivi.
In conclusione quando è necessaio tagliare o asportare le parti malate di una pianta si consiglia di bruciarle. E’ abitudine pericolosa non solo lasciarle sul terreno ma anche gettarle nel composter perchè le crittograme sono resistenti ed è pericoloso portarle in contatto con altre piante sane.
